Archives for category: Knit It Good

Supplies

  • Size 2 double-pointed needles
  • 2 skeins of Patons Lace-weight yarn
  • Stitch holder (so I can do both socks section-by-section)
  • Tapestry needle

Pattern

I’ll be following the pattern here.  There’s three sets of instructions for three different yarn weights.  I’ll be doing the lightest, in purple.

I cast on with the loosest version I know.  Just start with a slipknot, then knit a stitch and slip it back to the left needle and repeat until you have enough stitches, 64 in my case.

The ankle itself is supposed to be made of (knit 2, purl 2) ribbing.  I was worried that was going to come out too busy, but it looks fine.  I don’t like tall socks, so there’s only a few inches of it.

I’ve actually used this pattern before, so I hope I’ll be able to get through it pretty fast.  Last time I did it in a worsted weight acrylic. It was soft, softer than I expected from a cheap synthetic.

Worsted-weight acrylic

The problem was, it was still worsted weight, so the inside was pretty knobby. It left crease marks on my foot after a while.

So I’m going to try a lighter yarn this time.  I’m hoping the inside will turn out flatter that way.
